An Empty Space..and No it's not inside my head..LOL

"Space For Rent" "Spaced Out" "Gimme some Space"

Well really they all have nothing to do with my dilemna, they just have the word SPACE in them, and thats what i have...SPACE.
This particular space in my wall is driving me barmie but.

This is the view looking from part of the kitchen into the hallway.

From hallway, at front door to the kitchen area.

I need help (yes mentally as well i think).
Most of you would know i have 5 cats and they kinda like sitting up there so anything breakable along there is simply out of the question...hence only 3 things sitting on there right now that arent breakable(oh how id love to be able to put old china along there...)
*sigh* Oh well.

I have some ideas. Want me to run them by you?
Im thinking maybe a big swag of soft pink organza pulled in at the corners and top with bunches of faux roses, and hanging down at the sides....
OR still with the swag but INSIDE the framework and painting roses along the top and sides of the timber???
Hmmm what to do. what to do. I dont want it completely closed in because it does provide light and a nice breeze in summer from the front door.

So what do you think? Expert opinions much appreciated here. LOL.

Thanks Girls!

Lots of Pink Kisses,
Shann xo

Oh and this is what i mean by the cats like it up there...

I looks beautiful . . I like the idea of putting the pink organza on the outside in the form of a swag. You could add some pearls in with the roses, or maybe some sparkly beads??

I love your kitty - what would we do with out our furry friends!

What about one of those narrow white, picture rail shelfs from ikea? Like the one I have over the window in my kitchen? You can fit a ton of china on those. And because it is narrow it won't overwhelm.

Thats a hard one Shannon??? What about hanging little china tea cups from the top instead of putting anything below that the cats could break?

Your place looks lovely, I can see what you mean you need something on the white wall side, and the cats limit what you can do. Humm I will sleep on it and get back to you.
So glad we are swap partners :) catch you soon.

I have to think about this one. I love how cute everything is in your home. And that photo of your kitty is just too sweet.

If you put up the swag do it on the outside or the cats might use it for batting practice. I think it would look pretty.

Another idea would be to paint a swag of roses above the mantel and have the swags hanging down the sides.... The cats cant mess with them... or

Take plates and put them on the wall in an arc high enough they cant reach them

I am sure you will come up with a clever idea...

Let us know

Hi Shann,
After reading through everyones ideas I'm opting for Miss Siobhans suggestion of hanging teacups - well out of the way of flying kitties of course!!

Hey Shann,
I think the swag should be on the outside girl!

What a cozy catnap there in such a cute basket too - why are we working so hard and our animals are always snoozing? Oh yeah, they're smart and very pampered.

Happy day sweets!

Had an idea late last night, for the counter area you could get a cupcake or sweet display holder. And put some cupcakes or cakes on it. Or a long platter that is painted white with some faux treats. That way you can change the cakes every mth and it will always be something new. Something that won't breat so if the cats do knock it off it won't matter. The swag sounds great. Whatever you do will look great.

What about some wrought iron corner pieces, like the ones Tony sometimes uses in the sides of his benches, I think I have a photo of one on my blog header, the aluminium versions aren't too expensive. I like Siobhan's idea of hanging the tea cups too.

Oh my gosh! This is too funny and so close to home! I have to think about everything I buy to be sure it's not too tempting for my kitty!!! Your little angel in the basket is just adorable!
