To Paint Or Not To Paint...

Oh the stress, oh the indecision, i just cant take it anymore......LOL
Ok girls, help me out here.
This is the table and chairs in my kitchen eating area. I won these chairs on Ebay for a whole 99cents...I know BARGAIN huh ?.

Well anyway, being a lover of antiques i generally will not paint any furniture that is really old and vintage and may have history to it. BUT the more i look at these the more im leaning towards painting them.....
I have some beautiful fabric from the U.S to re-cover them and im afraid it will just look lost and kind of 'Blah' against the timber.

So, What do you think? That particular part of my kitchen doesnt get alot of light so im thinking white chairs......hmm....i am talking myself into it here arent i....Oh i am sure there would be Antique dealers all over the place that would be furious with me right now *chuckle chuckle*

Heres the fabric to re-cover them.

Wont they look lovely painted white....

Oh and i'd like to say a big THANKYOU from the bottom of my pink heart to all you lovely gals who popped by my blog for Karlas What Do You Love About Your Holiday Home Party.
I loved reading all your sweet and funny comments so much.
Thankyou sweet Karla for the opportunity to take part in such fun.

Now be sure and let me know what you all think about the chairs !

Bunches of Pink Hugs,

Shann xo

Hi Shannon! What lovely chairs and they were so cheap!! Trust you to find the bargain chairs haha :)

I love them how they are, but you have a white table and a lovely white home, so I would probably end up painting them. If you didn't paint you could strip table? Or would you ever shabby in a colour? Oh the dilemma!! Haha I can see your distress!

I am sure whatever you decide, they will look great. Keep us posted!

Hi Shannon, These are awesome chairs. Boy did you get a deal. I have painted lots of this type when I did more furniture. I think they would be lovely in white with the fabric you have shown. Maybe with a little sanded off distress here and there. Oh my, even some parts, a pale pink with the white, like the cross parts. Can't wait to see them finished. I am sure you will make them gorgeous whatever you decide. Enjoyed my visit.

I'm not that big on painting everything white as I think it can be a bit of over kill sometimes but in this case I CAN see them all white and looking lovely. So my vote is YES!

Hi Shannon,

What a bargain you scored!!! I say paint them white with a little distressing to give them a 'loved' look...the fabric is also beautiful, just go with what your heart tells you!

What are you waiting for girl?
Get out your brushes and paint them puppies!!!
You did'nt buy them to resell them and make fortunes... you bought them to enjoy so ENJOY them painted! lol

I use a paint called rose tinted white.....it looks white but when you put pink next to it, it looks pink! Very cool color!

Love the fabric choice for the seats.....

Now go Shabby them puppies up then show us all so we can be jealous!
:-)

Luvs ya sweetpea!

Definitely white
then maybe you can convince me to do mine lol
I think the palest pink for the rattan would be wonderful
i love the dreamy quality your house has
definitely risk the 99 cents and white.

Gail McCormack said...

99 cents that was a bargain! You could strip back the top of the table, stain it to vaguely match the chairs and leave the table legs white, that'd all tie in together I think, otherwise I'd paint the chairs....I'll stayed tuned

Hi Shannon, Im going with Gail! Strip back the top of the table, and paint the legs of the chairs, that way it breaks it up a bit, and they'll still look shabby! What a bargain!!

Shannon, Just a quick note till Monday! WHITE!! Or how about mixing a touch of pink in with the white? It would be the faintest shade and would look lovely in the light! Later,Love, Lori P.S. wait till you see the pink tree my best friend made me!!!!

paint them white, paint them white...they will look stunning

HI Shannon,

SOrry, but I am going to go with Gail as well...strip the top and stain it to match the chairs, then you will get the contrast of the timber from the table top and chair legs as well as the table legs with the pretty fabric. I have a dark spot in my kitchen area which I am going to get a large leadlight skylight made for...when I figure what I want that is!!! But I still have timber...as long as you add white in there somewhere it will be fine.

I love the look of the wood, but with the table in white ... paint them! I like the idea of distressing the paint a bit OR..... keeping them white and painting a few roses on the headboard part (is that the right term???) to tie in the fabric.

Kingswood Food and Craft Market said...

Thanks girls! I am definately painting them! Might get them started before christmas....

Hi Shann, forgot to say that I had a similar problem but with my big farm table I just painted the legs and left the top stained wood so that way it would tie in with white and wood. Have a pic on my blog but havent done the after shot yet. Its on my list lol!!
