IS YOUR HOME PERFECT ?

Well i know mine isnt. So what about yours?

Ive been thinking about 'perfect' homes for a few days, after a customer came to my home to pick up her orders and asked "Is this place a shop?"
Ok now i have to admit i wasn't sure how i felt about that question. I know my customer meant it as a compliment by saying my home was lovely and in her eyes 'perfect'.
But in my mind i thought Geez did she think it looked so perfect that it wasn't 'lived in' ?
I was really really worried about this.
Then i decided that while it may have seemed perfectly in place, this lady didn't see right around the corner far into the family room to all the things that make our home so NOT perfect. LOL.

Like the un-polished, un-sanded floorboards with paint splashes on them from the previous owners.
And the pieces of paper sticky taped to the floor (courtesy of Sam and his vivid imagination) with X marks the spot on them.....

Now how could i possibly rip those up?
I never will.

OR my gorgeous dresser with the bottom doors that keep getting pushed in by the cats because i still cant decide what fabric to keep on them so i haven't secured them down.

Then theres my exercise bike that's sitting in the Family Room. I just have nowhere else for it...and anyway i like to pedal while im watching re-runs of Ally McBeal.

So i concluded that while my house may 'appear perfect', there are those little spots here and there that prove otherwise.
Don't get me wrong i LOVE all the beautiful, glossy homes in the magazines, and yes a few rooms of my home are like that. BUT the Family Room is where all the action is, and on any given day, amongst my pretties and on my new sofas, there are a zillion kids toys, books and drawings by Sam, 5 sleepy and cheeky cats, squished cushions everywhere and ..... MY FAMILY.
And you know what? I wouldn't change any of it for all the money in the world.

What about you?

I wish you all a safe and happy weekend with your families.
We are picnicking on Sunday with my mum and Stepdad....and off to the park to feed the ducks with Sam.

Love Always,
Shann xxx

P.S Maybe next time I'll show you all my messy office.

Eeeeeeee gads, my home is far from perfect Shann, but I love it just the same because I've done everything I can do with the money I have to make it a welcoming, pretty and cozy place to live. All of the floors may not be perfect, a 1/2 bath remains unfishished, the kitchen cabinets need some major updates, etc, but for me, its a place I call home and that I can't wait to return to everyday. Have a great weekend Shann..

I agree with you. I'll never have the kids of home they feature magazines but my home is "safe" to me and while not gorgeous it's neat, tidy and well, just HOME to me and Love Bunny and we're happy with it. It is ever-changing, however. But it'll always be PINK, chickee! Sometimes I'm too hard on myself for how I can't achieve the looks I've always wanted but I can live with what I've got here now.

Connie

More than likey most of those 'perfect homes' in magazines are in reality just like ours - normal lived in homes. They are probably just set up for the photo shoot.
Have a great weekend

Hi Shannon,
Mine is far from perfect, but I do like it to look nice as best as I can! I do have a habit of "everything has a place and everything in it's place"...but I must admit I don't follow this rule as often as I would like LOL. But I have 3 cherubs that I wouldn't swap for the neatest house in the world!!!!

Well I hear ya...
I too think beauty even with homes is skin deep...You often have a room that stays neat but the rest is Lived in!
I would love a "Mueseum house"
You know a look but don't touch house.
But yes I have family,3 kids, regular visitors and It just ain't going to happen.
But pride I do take in what I do have and make the most of it.
Love the X map...Precious!

You have made me stop and think, I spend alot of time beating myself up over the fact that no matter how much time I spend decorating, or cleaning for that matter, I can never make my house look like a magazine photo shoot. I have only just realised I would prefer it to look like it does.....lived in. i love your sons treasure maps on the floor, they are my idea of perfect!

Hi Lovely

I have found that my home IS perfect... yeah sure its a mess and there is stuff everywhere and renos going on ... a mish mash of half finished projects BUT... what makes it perfect (and its the same in everyones home).. is that its a home...regardless of the decore, (as long as your happy with how you decorate and feel comfy.. we love the houses in the mags too and maybe our hallway looks like it BUT) there is love here and I'm here safe, and happy (with chockie in the pantry) with my family....

have a fantabulous weekend

My home wouldnt be a home without gorgeous little fingerprints and, stray pieces of leggo here and there. If a house is too tidy its just not homely..Thats what I keep telling myself..lol

PS the door to my office and the door to my sewing room is always closed..shhh but its not very tidy in there..

Perfect is so over-rated! I love your home, even though I have only seen pictures. I am like you & have pretty areas that are just for looking, even the chairs! Be proud of your home, if you enjoy it the way it is then just let it be.....even where X marks the spot!

P.S: I will let you know soon on a couple of dates for our blogging tea party get together. Can't wait!!!

I have to agree with you. When we moved into our cottage I couldn't bring myself into having the floors redone. Why sand down every scratch, every pit, every memory that add to the charm of this little house?
Kudos for keeping all the paint splatters intact :)

all these things make your home a perfect home, Sams x, the excercise bike etc, it means family and a house can only be a home with this, its no different then my washing in a pile on the table or a plate of leftover dinner waiting to go to the kitchen, it means people are there sharing happy times, the decoration is just the cherry on top.

Well said!
As creative people we know the process of visualising and creating is full of hiccups and variations to the plan but when a visitor sees what we have made they only see the finished product and the love that went into it, and that is the part they we should step back and appreciate more often.

Hi Shann,
You might think my place is clean and tidy just don't go looking in any cupboards, thats where I like to hide all the mess. I think a house is perfect when it feels like home to the peole living there.
Cheers and best wishes.
